Dear Parent/Carer,
As you are aware, testing for those without coronavirus symptoms is beginning across the country using new, quicker COVID‑19 tests known as ‘lateral flow devices. This letter is to give you more information about the testing programme and how we will facilitate this in our school.
Up to one third of people who have coronavirus do not have any symptoms. By testing we will help to reduce the spread in school and college settings through asymptomatic transmission. I am therefore strongly encouraging participation in the testing programme.
Plans for First and Second Tests
We will be testing all pupils, for whom we have received testing consent as they return to school. Information on the schedule for this has been posted home during the summer holidays and can be found on our home page, whole school information tab.
PLEASE NOTE – Your child must not attend school if:
They or any member of your household has symptoms of covid-19; or if;
They have been directed to isolate by NHS Test and Trace; or if;
They or any member of your household is awaiting the result of COVID-19 test
How the tests work
Those taking the test will be supervised by trained staff. The lateral flow tests are quick and easy to undertake, using a swab of the nose and throat. Results (which take around half an hour from testing) will be shared by the school with the pupil and parent/carer, when a test result is positive. Text and email notifications of a positive or negative result will be sent to the mobile number and email address submitted on the consent form. These texts and emails are sent directly from the online NHS system. Tests are free of charge.
What if my child tests positive?
If a pupil tests positive on any of their 3 on-site, lateral flow device tests, they will need to self-isolate for 10 days and follow the guidance from NHS Test and Trace.
What if staff or pupils have been in close contact with someone in school who tests positive?
On receipt of a positive test result, the school will undertake contact tracing to identify any close contacts. Close contacts, and their parent/carers, will be notified by the school and will need to self-isolate for 10 days in line with Government guidance.
Plans for Home Testing
You will also be aware of the government announcement that home testing kits will be available for pupils after their first 3 on-site tests. If you have consented for your child to have on-site tests, further information will be sent to you about home testing shortly. If you have not consented for your child to have an on-site test but would like to request home testing kits please complete the form at this link: Request Home Test Kits
What if my child develops symptoms?
This testing programme at school is for people with no symptoms. If your child develops symptoms at any time (including a high temperature; a new, continuous cough; or a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste) they must immediately self-isolate and book a test by calling 119 or visiting https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
We will support our pupils throughout, but please contact the school if you have any questions.
Yours Sincerely,
J Chan (Mrs)
Headteacher
